Okay y’all, let’s give a warm welcome to our YOUNGEST CITIZEN JOURNALIST YET—15 year-old Heidi Hayasaka of El Centro 🤗📝

Not gonna lie, I was impressed the moment I met her while covering a story about a fire & first responders training at Cattle Call Park earlier this year.

The Southwest High School Journalism class stopped by that day and I knew immediately that I had to talk to the one and only student running up and down dirt hills in the heat with a notepad in hand and a smile on her face.

With that kind of passion for the job at such a young age, I can only imagine what the future has in store for her 🤔💭

Unfortunately, since school let out for summer we have lost communication with Heidi via her school email, so if someone out there knows her personally please show her this article, give her a hug, and tell her she’s awesome!

Her enthusiasm is contagious, her focus unmatched, and her zeal for wanting to join every club on campus reminds me of me 😂🙌🏽

A huge thank you to SWHS journalism teacher Ajalee Hood for making such an impact on Heidi and countless other students. Classes like this are what keep our youth excited about coming back to school year after year.
