With an increase in fatal car crashes over the past year involving so-called street racers, the car meet community has seen an increase in law enforcement targeting modified vehicle owners under strict California law—a system which many feel is too cut-throat in comparison to regulations in other states.
In a world itching for community, should hobbies like this be demonized for the risks they could potentially involve or is this really a matter of personal responsibility? And how does this compare to those who collect and modify guns?
“Car culture doesn’t have to be reckless to be fun,” said event organizer Ivan Valadez.
