Well, with the help of our very own Brawley mayor, Gil Rebollar, we’ve compiled a list of thrift shops you can visit this summer so you can beat the heat and save our downtowns while doing it!

It may be common knowledge that Gil likes to sport one-of-a-kind slacks, jackets, and accessories while out on the job or in council chambers, but did you know it was his wife Holly who introduced him to this way of life? As someone whose earliest childhood memories include price tagging duties at family yard sales and sifting through heaps of old jewelry at thrift shops far and wide, I can’t imagine how anyone could go this long without experiencing what Gil calls “the thrill of the hunt”.

It’s true, you never know what you’ll find once you walk in! And with every secondhand item brings the magic of a secondhand story. Who wore this coat or read this book last, where did they go, and why?
